Welcome back to the DRG monthly newsletter. March has been one of the most active months for the community since we launched the Partner Program in 2024. New faces, returning members, tournament brackets filling up, and some announcements we've been sitting on since January.
Let's get into it.
Community Milestones
This month we cleared a mark we've been watching for a while: over 600 active Discord members, and more importantly, over 200 members who participate in voice channels and events at least twice a month. That second number matters more than the first. Total server count is a vanity metric. Active, engaged members are what make this community what it is.
Thank you to everyone who's brought someone new in over the past quarter. Word of mouth is still the best growth channel we have, and it's how most of you found us. If you've been here a while and know someone who'd enjoy the space, the invite link is always live: discord.gg/dirtyricegaming.
A special acknowledgment this month goes to the senior members who've been running the weekly practice sessions - particularly the Saturday morning FPS block and the Tuesday strategy game nights. Those sessions are the engine of the community's skill development, and the time investment from experienced members who shepherd newer players is exactly the culture DRG was built on.
March Tournament Results
DRG Spring FPS Bracket
Thirty-two participants. Six games. Three weeks.
The bracket came down to a final between Team Apex (captained by ApexInterfectum) and Ghost Protocol (captained by Invictus Maneo) - two squads that have been developing their coordination in our practice sessions for months. Both teams ran disciplined communication and positioning that, frankly, was impressive to watch from the spectator channels.
Final result: Team Apex, 3-2 in a series that went the distance.
The level of competition in the final was above anything we've seen in previous DRG brackets. The full stream replay is archived on our YouTube channel. If you missed it, watch the third game in particular - the comeback from 0-2 down is one of those sequences worth studying regardless of which title you play, because the strategic adjustment Ghost Protocol made mid-series and how Apex countered it is a masterclass in in-game communication.

Partner Spotlight: PUG Empire
This month's partner spotlight is PUG Empire, a competitive FPS community with a strong track record in organized league play. PUG Empire has been a presence in the FPS competitive ecosystem for several years, and their approach to structured team development aligns closely with how DRG thinks about skill-building.
The partnership began with shared practice lobbies in Q4 2025. Since then, members from both communities have been crossing over to each other's events, and several DRG players have found permanent squad homes through PUG Empire's structured team recruitment.
If you're a competitive FPS player looking for more structured organized play beyond DRG's community brackets, PUG Empire is a community I can personally recommend. Information on their Discord and how to connect is on our Partners page.
What's Coming in Q2
Spring Tournament Series, April Edition. We're expanding the April bracket to include a strategy game division alongside the FPS bracket for the first time. Details in the Events channel within the week.
Community Blog. If you're reading this, you've already found it. We've launched the DRG Blog as a dedicated space for long-form content, gear reviews, guides, and community spotlights. We want to grow this with contributions from across the community. If you've been around long enough to have things worth writing about, reach out in the Content channel. This is a community voice, not a solo editorial.
Discord Server Restructure. We're reorganizing channels in April to reduce noise and improve discoverability for newer members. We'll post the full plan before any changes are made so members can give input. The core channels aren't going anywhere - this is about cleanup and clarity.
Partner Program Applications. Q2 2026 is the next intake cycle for our Partner Program. If your community has been building a relationship with DRG informally and wants to formalize it, the application window opens April 1st. Full details on the Partnership Inquiries page on this site.

Community Voices
We asked members this month: What's one thing you'd tell yourself in your first week at DRG?
ApexInterfectum: "Get in a voice channel with people you don't know. The text channels are good but the voice channels are where you actually become part of the community. It feels awkward for exactly one session and then it doesn't."
Invictus Maneo: "Don't wait until you're good. Nobody here expects you to be. They expect you to be honest about where you are and to be willing to learn. That's the only requirement."
PUG Empire: "Ask the dumb question. Whatever you're embarrassed to ask, ask it in the newcomer channel. Nine times out of ten, three other people had the same question and didn't ask it."
We'll run this question monthly. It's a simple way to let the community speak to itself.
Final Word
Fifteen years of DRG is something we're proud of in a way that's hard to articulate to people outside the community. Most gaming communities from 2009 are gone. The ones that aren't often barely resemble what they started as. We still feel like the same group of people who sat in voice chat together when the community was five people, except the circle is bigger now, and it keeps growing.
That continuity comes from the people in this community who treat it like something worth maintaining. Not just playing games together - actively building the space, running events, welcoming newcomers, holding standards. That's you, reading this. That's all of us.
See you in the next session.
